A boxed Webley ‘Mark I’ Air Pistol in .177 calibre.
Made by Webley & Scott in Birmingham Circa 1923 – 24.
This pistol is in excellent original condition with most of its original finish present apart from a few areas on the side of the cylinder where it has worn slightly.
This is a very early manufactured ‘Second Series’ variant with serial number 1964.
It has the ‘Birmingham & London’ stampings on the left side of the cylinder and ‘Patents Applied For’ stamped on the breech unit. This shows it is an early model as later second series models had the patent numbers stamped on the breech. There are no stampings to the right side of the cylinder. The wooden grips are in good condition and are the narrow early type with the brass flying pellet on the left grip emblem clear and crisp. The pistol cocks and fires powerfully and appears to have had little use
The pistol comes with its original box which is complete but worn, which is to be expected due to its age, it has the correct Birmingham and London label.
Within the lower section is a ‘Webley Special Pellets’ cardboard box containing a few pellets. Also included is a Webley & Scott Ltd Price list with the Weaman Street Address, a rare ‘Webley Oil’ Leafet, three ‘CH Smith & Sons’ branded paper targets with the address of 123 Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham 4, a cleaning brush and a very rare hang tag relating to the safe cocking and firing of the pistol.
This is an excellent example of this very collectable Webley Air Pistol and one of the earliest examples we have seen.
